The Guild Gazette was the weekly newspaper of the Guild of Students at the University of Liverpool. It was launched in January 1937 to cover current events both inside and outside the university. It ceased printing in 1999. The digital collection includes full-text searchable issues from 1937-1994.
The paper covered annual events at the University such as the election of Guild President and Panto Day. The Gazette celebrated student achievements and causes, as well as covering national, local and university news. Culture and sports sections carried reviews and results from events involving university teams and societies. A search through the pages of the Gazette can track the rise of popular culture through student reviews of bands and artists performing in Liverpool.
The Gazette is a rich resource for accessing the life of University of Liverpool students in the twentieth century.
Views expressed in editorials or articles about current events of the time are those of the student authors. Some issues contain language which present readers may find offensive.
