    University Places and Spaces

This exhibition uses archival material to explore some of the places and spaces at the heart of the University of Liverpool.

Curated by Student Partner and MSc Sustainable Civil and Structural Engineering student Ekaterina Mulyk.

    Railway cutting

Discover how the campus looked with a railway cutting passing through the heart of it, the problems that the exposed railway created, and the drawn-out efforts to get it covered over.

    School of Architecture

Since establishment in 1894, the Liverpool School of Architecture has focussed on nurturing individual talent. This exhibition looks at the student work of some of the gifted individuals that began their journey there.

    University Sports Centre

Sport has been an important aspect of the student experience since the foundation of University College in 1881. This exhibition looks at the University Sports Centre building, a concrete monument to the central role sport plays within the University.

    Harold Cohen Library

The 1926 University Annual Report recorded that “the Library Building … still a crying need, remains a dream to be realised.” Dreams were answered in 1934 when Harold Cohen gave the generous gift of £100,000 for the erection of a new library. This exhibition tells the story of how the library came to be built and how it has changed over time into the building that we recognise today.

    Sydney Jones Library

The Sydney Jones Library is famed for its striking modernist design, with its exposed concrete skeleton, infill brick cladding and protruding independent study boxes. This exhibition looks at the original design of the library and how it has been altered to satisfy changing demands.
