Brian W. Aldiss Archive
Brian W. Aldiss (1925-2017) is one of the key figures in the history of science fiction. Aldiss authored over forty novels and over a hundred short stories. He is best known for his genre defining works such as Non-Stop (1958), Hothouse (1962), Greybeard (1964), Report on Probability A (1968), The Malacia Tapestry (1976), and The Helliconia Trilogy (1982-5).
In addition to his own works, Aldiss worked tirelessly to promote the genre of science fiction. He produced an influential history, Billion Year Spree (1973), edited numerous anthologies, and set up science fiction organisations that fostered international co-operation such as World SF and IAFA (the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts).
The Brian W. Aldiss Archive at the University of Liverpool is a supplementary collection to the main Brian Aldiss Archive at The Bodleian Library in Oxford. The material at Liverpool comprises manuscripts, typescripts, autobiographical writings, essays, articles, notes, correspondence, press cuttings and a small number of artworks and audio-visual materials.
The Digital Heritage Lab presents items from the Liverpool part of the Aldiss archive relating to Aldiss’s early life, including essays, puzzles, drawings, designs, and poems.
