This digital collection includes editions of academic calendars published annually by the University of Liverpool and its predecessor, University College. The earliest University College calendar in this collection dates from the 1882-1883 academic year and runs right up until the 2005-2006 term.
In 1903, University College Liverpool was granted the right to confer its own degrees, becoming the University of Liverpool. Calendars from after this date changed to reflect the new status of the institution.
The calendars were published by the University at the start of term to provide staff and students with information on the upcoming academic year. They include details of fees, examination dates, and the names of academic staff, as well as ordinances and regulations for the various courses of study. The University also sold space in the front and rear pages of the calendars, allowing Liverpool businesses to advertise to students.
